A common treatment for sleep disorders like snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is something called a Mandibular Advancement Splint (MAS).
This device is effectively a 'mouth guard' like you might see on the footy field, except it works slightly differently...
The MAS has a fitting for the top and bottom row of teeth which are connected together.
The bottom fitting is positioned slightly more forward than it would be naturally which results in the airways opening up more than than they normally would at resting point.
Since airway collapse is the primary reason behind snoring and OSA, the MAS can be quite effective at treating these disorders.
The devices are usually considered for people who have less severe OSA, or merely snore without any major disorder.
There are a number of considerations which should be made before using a MAS so if you feel like this is a device you could benefit from, please book an appointemnt with your GP nad get in touch with us.
We'd love to help you manage and treat your sleep disorder, so that you can get the best rest possible.
Sleep well, live well.
